Azerbaijan, Baku, March 31 / Trend , E. Ismayilov/

The State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) plans to complete deep oil well drilling at the March 8th field soon, a SOCAR source said.

"An oil well with a depth of 5,000 meters is currently being drilled at the field," he said.

Originally, the well was being drilled to uncover gas. Later its depth was reduced to drill an oil well.

A well with a depth of 3,650 meters will be drilled at the Alat Daniz field by the end of the year. The well's depth is currently 1,000 meters.

Both wells will be included in the balance of the Nariman Narimanov Oil-and-Gas Production Unit.

"We expect a great deal from the exploration drilling on the offshore Umid field," the source said.

The first exploration well drilling at the field is expected to begin in April or May.

"Gas output will increase if drilling at Umid yields results."

In 2008, the production unit delivered 438,100 tons of oil-and-gas condensate to the government, compared to the projected 432,000 tons, a source said earlier.

The unit delivered 703 million cubic meters of gas in 2008, compared to the planned 736 million cubic meters.
