Turkey attaches great importance to the construction of pipelines to transport gas from the Caspian basin and the Middle East to Europe via its territory, Turkish President Abdullah Gul said at a summit on the "Southern Corridor" in Prague, special correspondent of Trend reported.
Turkey realizes its liability and responsibility related to safety energy supplies to Europe.
"The existing pipeline, running from Russia and Azerbaijan, is the sole evidence how mush we realize our liabilities," Gul said.
Turkey, seeking to membership in the European Union, carries out energy policy, the main purpose of which is to strengthen its own national security by diversifying energy sources, Gul added.
"I'm convinced that the existing energy projects should be transformed into a productive process of cooperation based on mutual trust," he said.
Turkey feels a high responsibility in relation to the Southern Gas Corridor and Nabucco project, which is its most important component. This project could be more meaningful than the existing pipelines from the strategic point of view.
"We sincerely hope that the project Nabucco will provide impetus for other projects, and Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Iraq, Egypt and Iran, which will create the international political climate, along with other major gas producing countries in the Caspian and Middle East regions, will contribute to enhancing energy security of Europe " said Gul.
