U.S. companies would like to operate in oil and gas sectors in Turkmenistan: U.S. Energy Ministry

"U.S. companies want to work in oil and gas industry of Turkmenistan, whether the investment projects, direct construction of facilities or provision of services," Meryl Burpoe, Deputy Director U.S. Department of Energy Division for Russia and Eurasia said in an interview with a news service of Turkmen Dovlet habarlary.

U.S. companies wish to cooperate with the Government of Turkmenistan in implementation of its strategy to diversify energy exports. "U.S. Department of Energy strongly supports the idea of diversifying the export of gas from Turkmenistan."

In addition, U.S. companies are interested in participating in implementation of pipeline project from Turkmenistan to Europe, Pakistan and India. "The involvement of these countries in the project will depend on the Government of Turkmenistan and Turkmen energy concerns. In addition, U.S. companies would like to work in all areas of oil and gas industry of Turkmenistan, whether the investment projects, direct construction of facilities or provision of services for companies in Turkmenistan", she said.

Burpoe is taking part in the workshop "Pipeline integrity and management" which the U.S. Department of Energy holds in Ashgabat. According to her, most of pipelines needed to be reconstructed, including in the United States. This is an experience shared with the representatives of Turkmen specialists such famous companies as Penspen, Chevron, Exxon Mobil, Universal Pegasus and KBR.

"We brought best experts so that they together with technical experts of Turkmenistan share experiences on maintenance of a high operational level, existing pipeline system of Turkmenistan, its further development, as well as construction of new pipelines," United States senior representative said.

Burpoe noticed that an important time has come between the two countries. "We are very grateful to the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov his great attention to the development of mutually beneficial partnership with the United States. The United States are open to cooperation with your country in all spheres, which may be useful for Turkmenistan. First of all, the energy sector is a priority for the economy of Turkmenistan has huge reserves of hydrocarbons," Burpoe added.
