Fire occurs in Iran's Marun oil field

The oil well No104 of Marun oil field situated in Iranian Khuzistan Province burst into flame. The cause of the fire is the explosion of a pipe at a depth of 700 meters and the emergence of oil fountain as a result of it, İSNA News Agency reported.

The oil well No104 of Marun oil field situated in Iranian Khuzistan Province burst into flame. The cause of the fire is the explosion of a pipe at a depth of 700 meters and the emergence of oil fountain as a result of it, İSNA News Agency reported.

As a result of the accident, much oil spilled over the territory. Well No 104 was laid up to prevent oil spilling. It was filled with a special solution. The fire is still ongoing.

Roughly 500, 000 barrels of oil are extracted from 370 oil wells in Marun field per day. This is one of the largest oil fields of Iran.

About 20 days are required to extinguish the fire in this well, Mehr News Agency reported. More than 1,000 firemen have been involved.
