Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov is on a state visit to China. A new agreement on additional gas supplies via the Turkmenistan-China pipeline was signed, the Turkmen President told media today, ad reported by the Chinese media.
The contract provides for an increase in the gas supplies for 25 billion cubic metres of natural gas per year. It will bring the total volume up to 65 billion cubic metres of gas per year taking into account previous arrangements.
The pipeline to China via Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan was commissioned in December 2009. The project was implemented by CNPC, having a licence to extract raw materials on the Turkmen right bank of the Amu Darya River.
President Berdimuhamedov said that this gas pipeline project is of strategic importance to both parties. It meets the long-term interests of Turkmenistan and China and corresponds to the logic of global economic development where energy supplies play an increasing role.
