Turkey significantly increases electricity generation

Electricity generation in Turkey increased by 9.6 percent in January 2012 compared to the same period of 2011 and amounted to 21.389.2 billion kilowatt hours, a report of state-owned Turkish Electricity Transmission Company (TEİAS) on its website said on Monday.

Volume of electricity supplied to consumers together with the volumes imported from Iran, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Bulgaria hit 21.777.3 billion kilowatt hours in January.

Electricity export from Turkey to Syria in January amounted to 232.2 million kilowatt hours, to Greece - 228.6 million kilowatt hours.

Electricity consumption in January 2012 increased by 9 percent, compared to January 2011, and amounted to 21 billion kilowatt hours.
