Hearings held in Kazakh Atyrau to assess future expansion project’s environmental impacts

Public hearings were held in the Kazakh city of Atyrau on the preliminary assessment of the impact of the third plant called a future expansion project on the environment, regional media outlets reported.

It should be recalled that with its launch Tengizchevroil (TCO) intends to increase its total oil production from 25 million to 36 million tons per year.

This year, the Joint Venture Tengizchevroil celebrated the 20th anniversary of the start of oil production in Tengiz. The company was established in April 1991.

According to the TCO, the amount of direct payments to Kazakhstan totaled $60.1 billion during the existence of the joint venture since 1993.

TCO has invested more than $2.3 billion in mitigation of the negative impacts of its production on the environment by using new technologies. In the current year it is planned to allocate $121 million more for new programs on the environmental protection and further funding the old ones.
