President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov approved a list of an external development plans to be constructed for the Ustyurt Gas Chemical Complex (northwest Uzbekistan), and scheduled for 2012-2015 by regulation
Energy and water supply facilities, telecommunication networks, railways and roads, waterways and industrial water and an artificial pond will be built and upgraded in the next three years in accordance with the decree of the president.
In particular, it is planned to construct a gas and condensate pipeline with length of 112 kilometres and three gas turbines to produce electricity with the total installation capacity of 105 MW by August 2014.
It is also planned to complete the construction of two culverts with a total length of 150 kilometres, including the intake and pumping station with a capacity of 50,000 cubic meters of water per day and create an artificial pond with a water reserve capacity of seven million cubic meters in the third quarter of 2015.
National Holding Company (NHC) Uzbekneftegaz will finance the construction of infrastructure facilities. The decree does not specify the total cost of the construction, but according to a number of national experts, it will be at least $300 million.
The Uzbek-Korean joint venture Uz-Kor GasChemical will provide the construction of the facilities in accordance with the signed investment agreements and contracts on a turnkey.
As previously reported, JV Uz-Kor GasChemical was established on the Surgil gas feild in February 2008 for the Ustyurt GCC construction project. The joint venture was established on a parity basis with NHC Uzbekneftegaz and the Korean consortium of Kor-Uz Gas Chemical Investment.
Currently, Kogas, Honam, and STX Energy are included in the consortium of Korean companies.
