Service of Emergency Situations of Batumi managed to localize a large oil spill in the Bartskhana village and prevent the penetration of oil into the Black Sea, the Service told Trend on Saturday.
According to the information, last night there was a leak of oil from old pipes of the former refinery into the Bartskhana river.
Representatives of the environmental protection department of Batumi say the oil in the old, now defunct pipes has been accumulating for a few years. Special services have already isolated oil spill by means of special devices, and started pumping oil.
Meanwhile, local residents say that in recent years, oil has constantly polluted the Bartskhana river, and work to eliminate the local accidents was not enough.
Because of fears of ignition of spilled oil power supply to Bartskhana village was ceased.
