The work on the sidetrack drilling of the first exploration well on the Absheron field in the Azerbaijani sector of Caspian Sea should be completed before September 1, source at State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) told Trend.
"Sidetrack drilling of the well is continued. The work must be fully completed by September 1," the source said.
The opening of large gas field Absheron in the Azerbaijani sector of Caspian Sea was announced in September 2011.
Results from the first exploration well showed the presence of gas and condensate reserves in the amount of 150 to 300 billion cubic meters in the northern part of the field,
In September 2011, Azerbaijan announced the discovery of large gas reserves on the Absheron field in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea.
Participants in the project Absheron are SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) - 40 percent, the French company Total - 40 percent and Gaz De France Suez - 20 percent.
The contract on the Absheron Field was signed on Feb. 27, 2009, between SOCAR and Total. Later Total sold 20 percent of its equity participation to Gaz De France Suez.
