The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan is planning on completion of first production well in Umid gas condensate field in Azerbaijani sector of Caspian Sea in first half of 2013, high ranking SOCAR representative told Trend on Tuesday.

In his words, both wells drilled in the field were exploratory.

"The third well, drilling of which has already been launched, will be the first production well", the SOCAR representative noted.

In his words, extraction will be conducted in 5 wells on the platform. The drilling of production well is going to be completed by summer.

Previously, SOCAR has started gas and condensate supply onshore from Umid field through launched underwater infrastructure. Hydrocarbons from the field are supplied from one well, which was initially drilled as exploratory well. The well's further development was decided due to its rich reserves.

"4 more wells are going to be drilled", the source reported.

According to SOCAR specialist's estimations, the volume of reserves amounts to 200 billion cubic meters of gas and 40 million tons of condensate.

Umid field is located 75 kilometers away from Baku, at 40 kilometers from the shore. Geophysical work was first conducted here in 1953 and repeatedly in 1972. 9 wells were drilled from 1977 to 1992 with no results.
