Implementation of the strategy on the development of alternative and renewable energy sources until 2020 will start in Azerbaijan in 2013, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Industry and Energy chief of staff Rasim Mammadov reported to journalists on Thursday.
"Work on the preparation of a strategy which will consider an increase of alternative energy source shares in the general volume of energy production, is in process. The implementation of a new strategy will start in 2013", Mammadov noted.
The ministry representative went on to say that active work on development of alternative energy has been conducted in Azerbaijan in recent years and the new development strategy will enable a greater expansion of this direction
"Work in this direction is even more accelerated after the approval of its structure and the statement of new government company on alternative and renewable energy sources was made based on government agency", Mammadov said.
The share of alternative and renewable energy sources in the general volume of energy production is expected to reach 20 per cent as of 2020.
