By 2014, work will be completed for the modernization and renovation of several facilities at the Heydar Aliyev Refinery, a source in the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) which owns the refinery said on Tuesday.
According to the source, in particular, work on the renovation and modernization of the automation on the catalytic reformation facility and the modernization of a primary refining facility is planned.
"At present, project work is underway and will be concluded in 2014," the source said.
As the source noted, the modernization completion date at refineries can only be specified upon finishing work on the project.
In order to meet the growing needs of gasoline in the country, it is planned to increase the capacity of the catalytic cracking unit from two million to three million tons a year.
As senior SOCAR official mentioned previously, completion of work on reconstruction of the facility is scheduled for 2014-2015.
Oil products are produced at two Baku refineries, both with capacity of 16 million tons of oil a year.
Both refineries belong to SOCAR, which annually processes approximately seven million tons of oil from onshore and offshore fields at its own expense.
Heydar Aliyev Refinery specializes in production of light petroleum products.
