SOCAR continues works to save well at Bulla-Deniz field

Azerbaijan, Baku, Sept. 3 /Trend, G.Veliyev/

Currently, the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) is aiming to save the well at Bulla Deniz field, on which an accident occurred earlier and a fire is continuing at the moment, the SOCAR head Rovnag Abdullayev told journalists on Tuesday.

According to him, the engineering works are underway to eliminate the accident at Bulla Deniz field.

Abdullayev noted that the company could have extinguished the fire by liquidating the well, but the goal is to save it and operate, because during drilling, the well gave very good results in terms of the following production.

SOCAR was able to localize the fire at the platform and move it to a vertical surface, which makes the process of extinguishing the fire easy.

Equipments were also taken away from the platform.

According to Abdullayev at the moment some 2.5-3 million cubic meters of gas per day are being burned because of the fire.

Alongside with this SOCAR head noted that, earlier nearly 6.7 million cubic meters of gas per day were burned in the flare of the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli block of fields without any significant harm to the environment (currently, this indicator is brought to minimum thanks to the engineering measures).

The fire engulfed exploration well No.90 in the north-east wing of Bulla-Deniz on August 17.

The sea depth at the field is 26.5 metres.

The ignition happened during drilling at a depth of 5868 metres, SOCAR said.

An open gas blow-out took place at 23:30 local time, August 17 which was followed by a fire.

All 62 workers who were at the platform were evacuated to the shore, there were no casualties.
