Baku, Azerbaijan, Jan. 10

By Emil Ismayilov - Trend:

State Committee on Standardization, Metrology and Patents jointly with the Institute of Petrochemical Processes named after Yusif Mammadaliyev are developing state environmental standards of Euro-3 and above, which will be applied to various kinds of fuel, head of the committee's Standardization and Technical Regulation Department Namig Tagiyev told Trend on Jan. 10.

"The standards are being developed and in this process we are actively working with the Institute of Petrochemical Processes," he said.

Tagiyev added that the development of environmental standards that are applicable to different types of fuel, is quite complex and therefore requires the active participation of specialists.

He said nothing about the terms on finalizing the development of standards, saying that this process is complex and takes time.

Earlier, State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) vice-president for refining, David Mammadov said that production of gasoline corresponding to Euro-3 standard is planned to start in 2015, in line with the SOCAR program.

He also said the diesel fuel, produced by the company, already complies with Euro-3 standards.

Further improvement of the fuel quality to Euro-4 and Euro-5 standards will be possible after the commissioning of a new oil and gas processing petrochemical complex by SOCAR. The complex is planned to be constructed in Garadagh district of the Azerbaijan capital of Baku.
