As much as 2.82 million tons of Azerbaijani oil (21.1 million barrels) will be shipped from Turkey's Ceyhan port in May of 2016, a source on Azerbaijan's oil and gas market told Trend Apr.29.

Almost two-thirds of the shipped oil will account for Azerbaijan's State Oil Company (SOCAR), said the source.

"SOCAR will account for over 1.5 million tons of oil," the source added.

The oil is delivered to Ceyhan port from Azerbaijan's Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli block of oil and gas fields via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline.

The total length of the BТС is 1,768 kilometers including a 443 kilometer-long section running through Azerbaijan, a 249-kilometer long section in Georgia and a 1,076-kilometer long section in Turkey. The construction of the pipeline started in April 2003. It was filled with oil on May 18, 2005.

Moreover, the condensate from Azerbaijan's Shah Deniz field and the oil of third parties, including Turkmenistan is also shipped from the port of Ceyhan.
