The European Union can help in negotiations between Baku and Ashgabat to transport Turkmen gas via the Trans Caspian Pipeline to Europe, said Charles Hendry, former UK trade envoy for Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.
"The challenge is that whether Turkmen gas comes through Iran and Turkey to Europe or whether it comes across the Caspian Sea joining the TANAP, TAP pipeline network," Hendry said in an exclusive interview with Trend June 3 in Baku.
"A lot of Turkmen gas is currently going to China," said Hendry, adding that Europe is interested in the Turkmen gas.
Turkmenistan ranks fourth in the world in terms of natural gas reserves and is searching for new markets. Azerbaijan has already expressed its readiness to provide its territory, transit opportunities and infrastructure for the construction of the Trans Caspian Gas Pipeline.
