By Maksim Tsurkov – Trend:

The volume of horizontal drilling work carried out by Azerbaijan’s SOCAR reached about 3,600 meters, head of SOCAR Complex Drilling Work Trust Iskender Shirali said in an interview with Trend.

SOCAR Complex Drilling Work Trust is carrying out search-exploration and exploitation drilling work by the order of Azneft Production Union.

“There are many outdated oilfields in Azerbaijan, where the oil extraction coefficient is naturally decreasing. Hence, one of the main goals of Azerbaijani oilers is to keep the oil production levels stable. We have to drill additional oil wells, effectively manage the drilling process and determine the correct profile for the oilwells to achieve this goal,” Shirali said.

The head of the trust noted that oil wells are divided to vertical, diagonal and horizontal by profile.

“The first horizontal oil well in Azerbaijan was drilled by the Complex Drilling Work Trust on Pirallahi oilfield. The trust drilled about 3,600 meters of horizontal profile on West Absheron oilfield in 2017,” Shirali said.

He noted that the trust increased the total volume of drilling work by 41.2 percent in 2017.

“More than 115,000 meters worth drilling work was carried out and 71 oil wells were drilled in 2017. A total of 1.4 million meters of drilling work has been done and more than 900 oil wells have been drilled and commissioned to Azneft on land and sea oilfields of the country during the last 11 years,” Shirali said.

The Complex Drilling Work Trust was established on the basis of Bail Limani [Port] drilling agency and merged drilling structures of SOCAR. The trust uses the most advanced and modern technologies in its operation.
