Turkmenistan aims to increase electricity exports

During the government meeting in Ashgabat, a report was heard on the implementation of instructions, including the further development of energy infrastructure, Altyn Asyr TV channel reports.

Large-scale projects on modernization of existing and construction of new gas turbine power plants are being implemented in the electric power industry of Turkmenistan with the support of the state, and power lines are being laid, dozens of distribution power stations are being built, the system of energy supply of the capital, and other cities and settlements of the country is being upgraded, says the message referring to speech of the President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

The head of the state spoke about the need to continue work in this direction, focusing on the issues of commissioning of additional generating capacities.

"It will allow for stable provision of the annually increasing domestic consumption of electricity and for growth of electricity exports through both functioning and new routes".

Earlier it was reported that the total amount of electricity produced in Turkmenistan by 2024 is planned to be increased to 33 billion kilowatt-hours, which is 27.2 percent more than the plans for 2018.

Turkmenistan sells electricity to Afghanistan, Iran and Turkey. Official Ashgabat is also studying the prospects of supplies to the markets of the Caucasus, Central and South Asia.
