For five months of 2019, 94 brick enterprises of Uzbekistan were converted to use coal as an alternative fuel and 115 greenhouses were switched to the use of coal, Trend reports with reference to the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan.

These measures were envisaged in the resolution of the President of Uzbekistan dated April 26, 2017. The document provides for a phased work on the transfer of enterprises for the production of bricks, cement, greenhouses and a number of others to alternative fuels (coal) in 2017-2021.

To this end, first, special working groups were formed with the participation of entrepreneurs in all regions of Uzbekistan in order to clarify the advantages of transferring production to the use of coal as fuel.

Second, a special analytical work was carried out to study the profitability of the use of coal. Third, the need for coal was studied in regions where there is a shortage of natural gas supplies, which over time will only worsen.

Fourth, as part of the implementation of the presidential decree, work began on organizing the production of heating boilers in the country, which are necessary when using coal.

At the end of 2018, 33 percent of the total volume of brick produced in Uzbekistan was produced at the plants that switched to using coal as a fuel instead of natural gas. During this period, 27 percent of the total number of greenhouses was transferred to the use of coal.

The full completion of the transfer of only brick and greenhouse enterprises in Uzbekistan to the use of coal will allow the country to save billions cubic meters of natural gas annually.
