Turkmenistan intensifies work on dev't of its onshore and offshore deposits

Turkmenistan intends to intensify exploration, industrial development of promising onshore and offshore deposits, Trend reports referring to the Turkmen government on Sept. 21.

This issue was discussed at the governmental meeting. Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov stressed that this region has enormous energy potential, which opens up great opportunities for fruitful interaction with the world business circles, the Turkmen Dovlet Khabarlary state news agency said.

The president instructed to work to further improve the investment policy aimed at strengthening mutually beneficial partnerships with leading foreign companies having advanced experience and innovative technologies capable of ensuring the efficient development of oil and gas fields.

The projects which are being implemented in the energy sector must meet all environmental safety requirements.

Adviser on oil and gas issues to the Turkmen president Yagshigeldy Kakaev spoke on the results of the activity of foreign partners and the measures which are taken to intensify the international cooperation in this sphere.

According to a report by British Petroleum (BP), Turkmenistan ranks fourth in terms of natural gas reserves in the world and at this stage exports gas to China and Russia. The reserves of the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea are estimated by experts at 12.1 billion tons of oil and condensate, 6.1 trillion cubic meters of gas excluding the contracted areas.

Such deposits as Makhtumkuli, Diyarbekir and Garagol Deniz have been prepared for commissioning here. The priority is to conclude the production sharing agreements (PSA). According to the local estimates, more than 80 percent of the resources of the Turkmen part of the Caspian Sea are located in sediments at depths of more than 3,000 meters.
