BAKU, Azerbaijan, Oct.29

By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

Ukraine hopes that petrochemical imports from Azerbaijan will allow to increase the overall bilateral trade volume, Sergey Shteluk, economic advisor at Ukrainian embassy in Baku, said in an interview with Trend.

“Given the export dynamics of Azerbaijani oil and recently launched exports of petrochemical and gas chemistry products to Ukraine, we hope for further increase in trade turnover,” he said,

Shteluk noted that Azerbaijan is the most important partner of Ukraine in terms of oil and oil products’ supply.

“Oil, petroleum products, plastics and polymeric materials account for 93 percent of Azerbaijani exports to Ukraine. There is a significant potential for increasing the bilateral trade volume and expanding the product range by boosting cooperation in such spheres as chemical industry, as well as food industry, vegetable growing, horticulture and subtropical crops,” he said.

Moreover, as the economic advisor said, Ukraine has long been an important partner for Azerbaijan in power engineering industry and shipbuilding.

These spheres account for around 10 percent of Ukraine’s exports to Azerbaijan and there is enough potential for further growth.

He pointed out that first of all, it is about supplying the latest high-tech equipment produced in Ukraine to Azerbaijan for the development of electric power system and mechanical engineering in the country.

For example, Zaporizhtransformator PJSC restored active operation in Azerbaijan this year to ensure the reliability of electric power systems in the cities of Sumgait and Mingechevir, added Shteluk.
