Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR conducted 151,000 meters of drilling works in Azerbaijan, while a total of 291,000 meters were drilled in Azerbaijan as a whole in 2019, Trend reports with reference to SOCAR.
Last year, as part of a joint project between SOCAR and the French Total oil and gas company, using the SOCAR's Heydar Aliyev semi-submersible drilling rig, the deepest well with a depth of 7,411 meters was drilled at the Absheron field, according to the report.
“The development of the Absheron field is one of the most important projects to increase gas production in the future,” the report said. “It is expected that gas production at the field will begin in 2021, and the volumes of gas produced will be primarily directed at meeting the needs of the domestic market.”
The participants of the Absheron project include SOCAR and the French Total, with 50 percent each. The contract on Absheron field develoment was signed between SOCAR and Total Feb. 27, 2009.
