Black Sea Oil Terminal of Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR in Kulevi has a new bund for oil tanks, Trend reports citing the terminal’s website.

The purpose of the bund, or liquid containment facility is to prevent leaks and spillage and to provide containment of oil products from tanks and pipes, reads the message.

“The bund should consist of a base and its surrounding walls. Just recently, the Maintenance Department completed the construction of a new bund for oil/fuel tanks. The work was performed by highly-skilled construction workers from the Maintenance Department and in cooperation with the engineering team of the Operations Department.”

The project involved constructing the containment wall and arranging the fuel tank supports.

The bund complies with international standards and local regulations. Hydrostatic tests and visual inspections were performed to make sure the bund complies with all requirements and the results of the tests were satisfactory.

The terminal is used for shipment of crude oil, fuel oil, diesel fuel, gas oil, methanol, aviation fuel, propylene, liquid pyrolysis resin, naphtha, isopropyl alcohol, diesel fuel with ultra-low sulfur content, industrial oil, and condensate.

The terminal in the Kulevi port was put into operation in May 2008, and the transshipment of oil products was launched in June. The total capacity of the terminal is 10 million tons of liquid bulk oil cargo per year, including three million tons of oil, three million tons of diesel fuel, and four million tons of fuel oil. The total capacity of the tank farm of the terminal is 402,000 cubic meters.
