BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 4

By Leman Zeynalova - Trend:

Petkim petrochemical complex of Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR in Turkey set its historical record with production volume standing at 3.4 million tons as of 2019, Trend reports citing SOCAR Turkey.

Aside from synergy with Star Refinery, the digital transformation also contributed to this record high.

The company’s revenues rose by 25 percent as compared to 2018 and stood at 11.672 billion Turkish liras $1.916 billion.

Petkim’s General Manager Anar Mammadov said that in 2019, Petkim bought 759,000 tons of naphtha from Star Refinery, instead of importing it from different countries. “This synergy positively affected production, efficiency and crude supply security.”

Mammadov noted that the company attaches great importance to energy efficiency for a sustainable future.

The company saved $ 3.3 million with 23 energy efficiency projects implemented in 2019, he said, adding that energy security, which is important for the continuity of production, has also strengthened.

Incorporated in 1965, Petkim maintains its business operations as the first and only integrated petrochemical producer of Turkey. Producing approximately 60 petrochemical products at its production facilities in Aliaga, Izmir, Petkim provides contributions to national industry and production.

SOCAR Turkey acquired and made Petkim focal point of its investments in 2008.

The petrochemical products, produced by Petkim, are used in several industrial branches such as automotive, electrics, electronics, agriculture, packaging, textile, pharmaceutics, paints, construction, detergent and cosmetics.
