Renewable energy power plants in Iran's northern province of Gilan produced 76,040 megawatt-hours of electricity in the first month of the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2020 through April 19, 2020), said Mohsun Babazadeh, director of the electricity market department of the Guilan Regional Electricity Company, Trend reports citing Iran's Ministry of Energy.
According to Babazadeh, there are five power plants operating in the area of renewable energy in Gilan province.
Babazadeh added that these power plants include Tarik, Sefidrud, Sine-Huni and Bijar hydroelectric power plants as well as Manjil wind turbine power plant.
The official said that the operation of these power plants prevents emission of greenhouse gases and reduces the consumption of residual fuels.
As a result of the operation of 128 renewable power plants in Iran, 1.27 million cubic meters of gas and 989 million liters of water were saved last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 to March 20, 2020), and emission of 3,070 tons of greenhouse gases was prevented.
The production capacity of renewable energy power plants in Iran is 885 megawatts. Iran intends to increase its production capacity to 5,000 megawatts in the nearest future.
