The gas production of 11th phase of Iran-Qatar joint South Pars gas field (this field is called North Dome in Qatar) will begin next year, said Managing Director of Iran's Pars Oil & Gas Company (POGC) Iran Mohammad Meshkinfam, Trend reports citing official POGC website.

According to Meshkinfam, a jacket is currently being installed in 11th phase. After installation, five wells will be drilled.

Meshkinfam added that with the drilling of five wells in 11th phase, the first platform is expected to produce 14.1 million cubic meters of gas per day.

The official said that gas production on platform C of the 12th phase of the South Pars gas field has sharply decreased, so the platform will be transported to and installed in phase 11 early next Iranian year (begins March 21, 2021).

"According to the program, the gas produced on this platform will be transported to the 9th processing plant via the existing 12C pipeline," he said.

Meshkinfam said that seven more wells will be drilled on the 11th phase’s platform once production begins.

France's Total and China's CNPC withdrew from the project due to the US sanctions against Iran, and Iran's Petropars Company took over the project.

Gas from Iran's South Pars gas field is transported to refineries in the Pars Special Energy Economic Zone in the port city of Asaluyeh in Iran's southern Bushehr province via a gas pipeline.

The South Pars gas field is a joint gas field of Iran and Qatar. The proven reserves of the South Pars Gas Field are estimated at 51 trillion cubic meters of gas, of which 36 trillion are extractable. At present, Iran's daily gas production from the South Pars gas field is more than 700 million cubic meters. Iran has so far spent $33 billion on projects of the South Pars gas field.

Around 75 percent of Iran's gas is supplied by this field.

The US imposed new sanctions on Iran in November 2018. Over the past period, the sanctions affected Iranian oil exports, more than 700 banks, companies and individuals.
