IGB: Production of third major batch of pipes started

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 23

By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

The production of the third major batch of pipes for the Interconnector Greece-Bulgaria (IGB) have already started, ICGB AD, a project company, told Trend.

“As of June, the first two milestones of line pipes production and delivery have been fully completed. The production activities on the third major batch have already started and the Greek company Corinth Pipework continues its work on track as per the signed contract with ICGB AD,” said the company.

ICGB AD said that the first deliveries of line pipes from the 3rd milestone are set to begin by the end of June.

“Pipes are being stored in 4 facilities – 3 in Bulgaria (near Haskovo, Dimitrovgrad and Momchilgrad) and 1 in Greece (near Komotini). About 50 percent of the quantities needed for the interconnector have now been successfully manufactured.”

The IGB project envisages the construction of a gas interconnector that will link the gas transmission systems of Greece and Bulgaria. The total length of the gas pipeline is 182.6 km, and its capacity for gas transmission is 3 billion cubic meters per year with the option to reach 5 billion cubic meters.

The route of the gas pipeline is divided into 7 main lots, the shortest being 9.55 km long and the longest - 71.90 km. 106 km of the route in Bulgaria will be completed with automatic welding, and the remaining 45 km - by manual welding.
