The project on a crude oil transportation project from Goureh oil terminal in the Bushehr province (southern Iran) to the Jask station on the shores of the Gulf of Oman is very important for Iran's national, economic and energy security, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said, Trend reports citing IRINN.
He made the remark during a video press-conference dedicated to the project.
The president stressed that many countries around the Persian Gulf have found another way to export crude oil.
"Thus, if there is any threat in the Strait of Hormuz, they can export their oil in other ways," he said.
Rouhani added that among these countries, Iran was the sole country that had no alternative way from Strait of Hormuz on crude oil export and if this strait was closed for any reason, Iran’s oil exports would stop.
The Goureh-Jask oil pipeline can fully reassure Iranian customers.
The construction of the 1,000-kilometer Goureh-Jask oil pipeline project worth more than $1.8 billion has been outsourced to local manufacturers and contractors. It is planned to transport 1 million barrels of crude oil per day via the pipeline.
According to the program, the pipeline will be commissioned next year (begins March 21, 2021).
It is also planned to build a 30 million-barrel oil storage facility on 460 hectares at the Iranian Jask oil terminal. As part of this program, a storage facility for 10 million barrels of oil is being built.
