The repair work has been completed on the 5th phase (SPD-5) of the Iran-Qatar joint South Pars gas field (called North Dome in Qatar), said Sepahdar Abbaszadeh the Deputy Director of Production and Operations Department of Pars Oil and Gas Company (POGC), Trend reports citing the POGC’s official portal.

According to Abbaszadeh, the 5th phase of the gas field has the potential to extract daily 1 billion cubic feet of gas (about 28.3 million cubic meters).

“Furthermore, the SPD-6, SPD-10 and SPD-11 phases of the South Pars gas field are also planned to be repaired,” the deputy director added.

The South Pars gas field is a joint gas field of Iran and Qatar. The proven reserves of the South Pars Gas Field are estimated at 51 trillion cubic meters of gas, of which 36 trillion are extractable. Iran has so far spent $33 billion on projects of the South Pars gas field. Around 75 percent of Iran's gas is supplied by this field.

Iran extracted 570 million cubic meters of gas per day from this field in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 to March 20, 2020).

On Nov. 9, Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Zanganeh said that Iran’s gas extraction exceeded 1 billion cubic meters.

The minister also noted that Iran's gas extraction from the South Pars gas field is more than 700 million cubic meters daily, at present.
