Oil wells repaired on Kharg Island of Iran

As many as 7 oil wells have been repaired and handed over on the Kharg Island in the Bushehr Province (southern Iran) since the beginning of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2020) to Jan. 6, Deputy Director of National Iranian Drilling Company (NIDC), Farid Bechari said, Trend reports citing the company’s website.

According to him, another well is currently being repaired on the Kharg Island.

The deputy director added that a total of 82 oil wells have been drilled and improved around Kharg Island by the National Iranian Drilling Company over the past 40 years.

Bechari noted that 64,500 meters of drilling work were carried out on the island over the reporting period. Its 28,500 meters were carried out on the coastal waters of the island.

The National Iranian Drilling Company has drilled and improved 87 oil and gas wells in the first nine months of the current Iranian year (March 20 through December 20, 2020).

Iran has 125 oil fields and 59 gas fields. The country's total hydrocarbon reserves are estimated at 836 billion barrels. With available technology and equipment, Iran can extract 239 billion barrels. Thus, 29 percent of the country's hydrocarbon reserves are recoverable, while 71 percent remain underground.
