Kazakhstan revises timeframe for reverse oil pipeline construction amid COVID-19

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Jan. 8

By Nargiz Sadikhova - Trend:

Kazakhstan's KazTransOil JSC will complete in 2021 the investment project on the construction of the first stage of the reverse section of the Kenkiyak-Atyrau oil pipeline in 2021 as the COVID-related restrictions postpone the project implementation, Trend reports citing the company.

The company added that the new project timeframe was approved by KazMunayGas National Company.

The company also emphasized that all activities within the first launch complex of the project were completed in June 2020.

In particular, a two-line jumper of the pipeline with a total length of 6.5 kilometers from the Head Oil Pumping Station named after N. Shmanov to the Atyrau-Kenkiyak oil pipeline with areas of commercial oil metering station site was completed.

Reconstruction of the facilities of MunaiTas LLP on the territory of the Oil Pumping Station named after T. Kasymov, Kenkiyak Oil Pumping Station, and the linear part of the Kenkiyak-Atyrau oil pipeline has been completed.

Commissioning of the first start-up facilities made it possible to increase the volume of oil transportation in reverse mode from 90,000-100,000 to 190,000-200,000 tons per month from July 1, 2020.

As part of the second start-up facility at the Aman PS construction site, hydraulic tests of process pipelines were carried out, and a tie-in was made to the Kenkiyak-Atyrau oil trunk pipeline at the connection point of the treatment unit launching unit at 226 kilometers.

All works, including commissioning, have been completed at the Kulsary substation and Aman substation. In addition, power was supplied to two high-voltage lines of 110 kV, a complete transformer substation 10/04 kV of the Aman oil pumping station, and the main pumping units of the Aman oil pumping station.

The project on the first stage of the reverse section of the Kenkiyak-Atyrau oil pipeline is one of the stages of construction and development of the Kazakhstan-China oil pipeline system.

Putting it into operation will allow for the transportation of oil from West Kazakhstan fields in the reverse direction in the amount of up to 6 million tons per year to Pavlodar and Shymkent refineries, as well as for export to China via the Atasu-Alashankou oil pipeline and railway tanks with the Shagyr oil refinery.
