Iran's NIDC discloses details of drilled oil, gas wells

A total of 117 oil and gas wells were drilled and improved in Iran over the past year (from February 1, 2020 to February 1, 2021), Managing Director of the National Iranian Drilling Company (NIDC), Abdollah Mousavi said, Trend reports citing the company’s website.

The director emphasized that a total of 85,600 meters of drilling operations were carried out in these wells during the reporting period.

“Of these wells, 27 were development wells, 1 was a delineation well, and 85 were repair wells,” he added.

Mousavi noted that these oil and gas wells were drilled in the territories of the National Iranian South Oil Company (NISOC), Iranian Offshore Oil Company (IOOC), and Iranian Central Oil Fields Company (ICOFC).

According to him, within the mentioned period, 18 wells were drilled and completed 326 days earlier than planned.

The director said that 17 drilling rigs will be used on the development of the Balarud, Bangestan Lali, Sepehr, Jufair, and Siyah Makan fields.

Iran has 125 oil fields and 59 gas fields. The country's total hydrocarbon reserves are estimated at 836 billion barrels. With available technology and equipment, Iran can extract 239 billion barrels. Thus, 29 percent of the country's hydrocarbon reserves are recoverable, while 71 percent remain underground.

As reported, Iran extracts about 2 million barrels of crude oil and 930 million cubic meters of rich gas per day.
