SOCAR’s STAR Refinery reduces oil imports y-o-y

The STAR oil refinery of Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR in Turkey imported 629,147 tons of crude oil in February 2021 as compared to 778,500 tons in the same period of 2020, Trend reports citing Turkey’s Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK).

STAR Refinery’s exports stood at 163,507 tons in February 2021, compared to 131,876 tons in February 2020.

The EPDK report shows that STAR refinery produced 342,485 tons of diesel and 2,819 tons jet fuel. In addition, during this period, the refinery produced 144,342 tons of intermediate products, 59,086 tons of other products, 154,409 tons of heavy vacuum gas oil, 13,662 tons of LPG, 96,437 tons of naphtha, 54,486 tons of petroleum coke and 7,177 tons of refinery gas (non-liquid).

Star Refinery, with investment value of $6.3 billion came on stream in October 2018. Around $3.3 billion of the project’s cost was covered by loans. The total investment in Star Refinery is expected to stand at $7 billion.

The annual processing capacity of Star Refinery is 10 million tons. It meets around 25 percent of Turkey’s refined oil products. The refinery is able to process 214,000 barrels of crude oil per day.
