BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 28
By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:
Preparations for the Igdir-Nakhchivan gas pipeline between Turkey and Azerbaijan have been completed, Trend quoted Turkish minister of energy and natural resources Fatih Donmez as saying.
“We expect the Azerbaijani side to approve some technical data. As soon as those approvals come, we will start the pipeline construction. Our preparations for the route, survey, expropriation and projecting are over,” the minister told Turkish media.
Azerbaijani and Turkish energy ministries signed a memorandum of understanding on Igdir-Nakhchivan gas pipeline project on December 15, 2020.
The project will be implemented by Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR and Turkey’s BOTAS.
Turkey’s TPAO company will conduct communication and other works within the project.
The pipeline’s length from Igdir to Sadarak will be 85 kilometers with throughput capacity of 500 million cubic meters per year.
Engineering work was completed in October.
Nakhchivan currently receives gas mainly through Iran. The supply of Azerbaijani gas through Turkey will help Nakhchivan meet its gas needs.
