Work on drilling of well in Iran's Ahvaz field completed

Well No. 172 was drilled and prepared for extraction within the plan on the development of 1st and 4th reservoirs of the Ahvaz oil field in Iran, said Mohammad Khavarinejad, Operations Manager at National Iranian Drilling Company (NIDC), Trend reports citing the company’s website.

According to him, the well was drilled with “Fath 38” drilling rig.

Khavarinejad added that the drilling rig will be installed on another well and excavations will begin.

The manager noted that in order to accelerate the work on the plan to develop 1st and 4th reservoirs of Ahvaz oil field, 4 drilling rigs have been allocated. The "Fath 34" drilling rig is currently in the Gachsaran region and the third well in the Ahvaz field will soon be drilled via this drilling rig.

As reported, the Iranian Oil & Energy Industries Development Company (OEID) has signed a contract with the National Iranian Drilling Company (NIDC) to develop the 1st and 4th reservoirs of the Ahvaz field.

According to the plan for development of the reservoirs, 6 development and 6 repair wells will be drilled and 10 pumps will be installed inside the wells.

The drilling work in the two reservoirs is estimated to be completed within 24 months.

The Ahvaz oil field is located in the Ahvaz County of Khuzestan Province (south-western Iran).

The field contains more than 65 billion barrels of oil, of which 37 billion barrels can be extracted. Iran extracts 800,000 barrels of oil and 13 million cubic meters of gas per day from the Ahvaz oil field.
