Iran suspends authorized cryptocurrency farms until September

A spokesman for Iran`s electricity industry said over 212,000 cryptocurrency mining devices had been discovered, consuming electricity as much as 800-megawatt of power.

A spokesman for Iran`s electricity industry Mostafa Rajabi Mashhadi announced the reduction of 1500 MW of electricity consumption on holidays, Trend reports citing ILNA.

Referring to the coming Covid-19 related closure, he says that the consumption will definitely decrease during the holidays.

Addressing the recent blackouts in the country, Mashhadi announced that the authorized cryptocurrency miners are banned from mine until the end of September.

Regarding the electricity supply status of cement factories he says that these factories are supplied by electricity at 60 percent during the day and 30 percent at night.

Referring to the supply of electricity to the steel industry, Mashhadi said that these industries are also supplied by 50 percent of electricity at night and 30 percent during the day.”

In early July, the blackouts have spread chaos and confusion on the streets of the capital, Tehran, and other cities, knocking out traffic lights, shutting factories, disrupting telecommunications and affecting metro systems.

Officials have blamed the outages on the country’s stifling heat, escalating electricity demand and deepening drought that has threatened to snuff out hydroelectric generation.
