Iran's electricity consumption to increase - ministry

TEHRAN, Iran, Aug. 23

Trend:

Iranian Energy Ministry's Spokesman for Electricity Industry, Mostafa Rajabi Mashhadi predicted the increase in Iran's electricity consumption by 400 MW.

Referring to the change in working hours of state-owned agencies amid the fifth wave of Covid-19 in Iran, Mostafa Rajabi Mashhadi says that return to the previous routine will increase electricity consumption up to 400 MW, Trend reports citing IRNA.

Iran imposed a one-week lockdown in the capital and a nearby province as daily COVID-19 caseloads hit a record high amid a fifth wave of the pandemic. The government changed the working hours for essential agencies such as banks to 7 AM to 14:30 PM, from August 23, for a week.

Mostafa Rajabi Mashhadi stated that the return of state-owned departments` working hours to the previous routine will lead to an increase in electricity consumption.

Considering that the air conditioners and lighting systems must be on for employees, he says that the electricity consumption will be increased.

He expressed hope that this issue will not disrupt the supply of electricity.

Noting the trend of increasing temperature, he asked the subscribers to make the necessary cooperation with the electricity industry to overcome the electricity shortage.

Mashhadi asked the state-owned departments and banks to turn off the air conditioners one hour before the departure of the employees and the closing time.

According to IRNA, electricity consumption on Thursday, August 19 has increased by 7,500 megawatts compared to the same day last year
