Kazakhstan to transition most polluted cities to renewable energy - minister

It is planned to switch 10 of the most polluted cities to alternative energy sources in the medium term in Kazakhstan, Trend reports, referring to the statement of the Minister of National Economy of Kazakhstan, Aset Irgaliyev.

According to the Minister, a law "On the development of agglomerations" will be implemented in Kazakhstan. It is planned to update the Regional Development Plans in accordance with the approved National Priorities.

Together with strategic investors, renewable energy with a capacity of at least 2,400 MW is expected to be put in operation.

"In the medium term, it is planned to carry out gasification and transfer 10 of the most polluted cities to alternative energy sources in the medium term," Irgaliyev said.

Within the framework of the national project for the development of regions, all cities and villages will be provided with clean drinking water within 5 years.

For the purpose of careful use of resources, 120 channels will be reconstructed and 9 new reservoirs will be built.
