Iran’s Persian Gulf TPP increases electricity generation

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Oct. 11

By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:

The electricity generation of the Persian Gulf Thermal Power Plant in the Hormozgan Province (southern Iran) increased by 15 percent during the first six months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through September 22, 2021), compared to the same period last Iranian year, Trend reports citing Iran’s Thermal Power Plants Holding Company’s website.

According to the report, the Persian Gulf TPP generated about 3.26 million megawatt-hours of electricity within the mentioned period.

“Due to the increase in electricity demand in the summer of this year, the Persian Gulf TPP was operating at full capacity. As a result, there was a need to repair 2 units of the thermal power plant in the 6th month of the current Iranian year (July 23 through September 22). The units were repaired and returned to operating,” the report said.

Prior the repair work, the Persian Gulf TPP generated 2.8 million megawatt-hours of electricity during the first 5 months (March 21 through August 23, 2021).

Reportedly, the Persian Gulf Thermal Power Plant supplies about a third of Iran's Hormozgan Province's electricity need. There are 6 gas units at the power plant, each of which generates 165 megawatt hours of electricity.
