The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) will consider till the end of this month the appeal from the Salyan Oil operating company, engaged in the development of the Kyursangi-Garabagli contract area, on extending the exploration period for several months, SOCAR told Trend. During this period the company is to complete drilling of the last exploration well which is within the contract commitments.
About three months are needed for accomplishment of works. The well was to be completed late last year. However, due to technical problems drilling on the well has been suspended. The wells design depth is 4 400 meters. Drilling is performed on the western part of the Garabagli field.
Under the commitments of the PSA type contract, Salyan oil is to drill three exploration wells. The prospecting period finished in 2004. After the talks with SOCAR the decision on extending the prospecting commitments till 2005 has been taken. Drilling of the well is performed by the Chinese drilling contractor, the Great Wall company.
