Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend S.Aliyev / The Vice President of Azerenerji joint stock company, Marlen Askerov, reported on 26 April that to date the Iranian energy specialists have not replied to a protocol on the construction of power grids in Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. Azerbaijan has developed its protocol which is to be co-ordinated with Iran.

Previously, both parties co-ordinated the terms of the construction of the frontier power station in Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan. The project involves the construction of two power stations (one in Azerbaijan and the other in Iran) on the bordering Araz River in the Ordubad District of NAR.

The construction of the border power stations envisages the construction of stations with a similar capacity. Azerbaijan intends to build a power station with the capacity of 45 MW. The parties made a resolution that unless Iran builds power stations with a similar capacity, Azerbaijan would construct it in its own territory. Earlier Azerbaijan and Iran agreed to construct power stations on the Araz River. They agreed upon the construction of two power stations (one in each country) with the capacity of 45 MW, Ordubad Hydro-Power Station ( Azerbaijan) and Marazadagh HPS ( Iran). The water resources of the river will be shared equally.
