Turnover on payment cards in Azerbaijan increases

The turnover on debit and credit cards through ATMs and POS terminals in Azerbaijan amounted to 2.42 billion manat ($1.42 billion) in September 2020, which is 26.9 percent more compared to the same period of 2019, Trend reports citing a statistical report of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA).

According to the report, the total number of transactions with payment cards during this period amounted to 20.5 million, showing an increase of 45.3 percent. In monetary terms, this figure amounted to 2.4 billion manat ($1.41 billion). As many as 2.5 million transactions carried out outside the country, the amount of which equaled 134 million manat ($78.8 million).

At the same time, the number of transactions on debit cards (both within the country and abroad) amounted to 17.4 million, the amount of which was 2.25 million manat ($1.32 million). Of these, 6.8 million transactions worth 1.6 million manat ($0.94 million) were carried out through ATMs inside the country, and through POS terminals - 3.34 million transactions in the amount of 247,000 manat ($145,294).

By credit cards (both within the country and abroad), bank clients carried out 3.1 million transactions totaling 179 million manat ($105.2 million). At the same time, 286,000 transactions for 47 million manat ($27.6 million) were carried out using ATMs inside the country, 1.4 million transactions for 69 million manat ($40.5 million) - using POS terminals inside the country.
