Trend:

Iraq's Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, who is paying a visit to Tehran today, met Secretary of Iran Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani, Trend reports citing Fars News Agency.

Hussein will later meet Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif. This is Hussein's second visit to Tehran in a month.

The Iraqi FM pointed out that the process of paying Iraq's debts to Iran will begin soon.

During the meeting with Shamkhani, Hussein presented a report on the recent political and security developments in Iraq.

Referring to the agreements reached between the officials of the two countries to repay Iraq's debt to Iran, which has been postponed due to US sanctions against Iran, he said that with the continuous efforts of the financial and banking sectors of Iran and Iraq, several important obstacles have been eliminated.

“Based on the model agreed between the two countries, the debt repayment process will begin soon,” he said.

Ali Shamkhani said that the delay in implementing the law passed by Iraqi parliament on withdrawal of foreign troops from Iraq increases tensions in the region.
