Azerbaijan's payment card turnover grows

The turnover on payment cards through ATMs and POS terminals in Azerbaijan grew as of early June 2021, Trend reports referring to the statistical report of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA).

According to the report, this indicator made up 2.83 billion manat ($1.66 billion, a rise of 21.8 percent on annual basis)

The total number of transactions with payment cards over the reporting period amounted to 26.47 million, a growth of 45.6 percent for the year, including 2.87 million transactions worth 123 million manat ($72.3 million) outside the country.

Meanwhile, 22.95 million transactions via debit cards worth 2.66 billion manat ($1.56 billion) were conducted both within the country and abroad, of which 8.17 million transactions worth over 1.8 billion manat ($1.06 billion) were carried out through ATMs inside the country, and through POS terminals – over 5.7 million transactions worth 303 million manat ($178.2 million), the report said.

At the same time, bank customers carried out more than 3.5 million transactions on credit cards (both within the country and abroad) with a total value of 173 million manat ($101.7 million). Some 292,000 transactions worth 42 million manat ($24.7 million) were carried out using ATMs inside the country, and 1.85 million transactions worth 84 million manat ($49.4 million) - using POS terminals inside the country.

As of early June 2021, the number of payment cards has increased by 17.7 percent compared to the same period in 2020, exceeding 9.9 million, added the report.
