Azerbaijan sees increase in lending to household sector

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 21

Lending to the household sector in Azerbaijan increased by 8.8 percent in the first 5 months of 2021 compared to the same period of 2020, exceeding 7.15 billion manat ($4.2 billion), Trend reports citing the statistical report of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA).

At the same time, 1.05 billion manat ($617.6 million), or 15.1 percent of issued loans fell on short-term loans, of which 863.4 million manat ($507.8 million) were issued in national currency, and 182.7 million manat ($107.4 million) in foreign currency, the report reads.

According to the CBA, long-term loans reached 5.87 billion manat ($3.45 billion), or 84.9 percent. Loans were issued in the national currency in the amount of 5.61 billion manat ($3.3 billion), and in foreign currency - in the amount of 259.4 million manat ($152.5 million).

As reported, during the reporting period, household lending operations were carried out mainly in the national currency.

Thus, loans in national currency totaled 93.6 percent or over 6.47 billion manat ($3.8 billion) of the total lending to the sector, the CBA report said.

The share of lending to households in lending to the real sector in the mentioned period amounted to 47.5 percent, having increased by 3 percent on annual basis.
