Azerbaijan's turnover of payment cards up in 10M2021

The turnover on payment cards through ATMs and POS terminals in Azerbaijan increased from January through October 2021, Trend reports referring to the statistical report of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA).

According to the CBA, this figure amounted to nearly 3.4 billion manat ($2 billion), up by 911 million manat ($535.8 million) or 42.4 percent against nearly 2.38 billion manat recorded in the first 10 months of 2020.

From January through October this year, the total number of transactions on payment cards equaled 33.3 million (an increase of 74.5 percent over the year), including 3.97 million transactions worth 178 million manat ($104.7 million) were carried out abroad.

Over the reporting period, 29 million transactions worth 3.1 billion manat ($1.8 billion) were carried out on debit cards (both within the country and abroad), of which 8.06 million transactions worth 1.9 billion manat ($1.12 billion) were carried out through ATMs, and 7.9 million transactions worth 357 million manat ($210 million) through POS terminals inside the country.

Meanwhile, with credit cards (both within the country and abroad), bank customers carried out 4.26 million transactions totaling 231 million manat ($135.8 million). Besides, 329,000 transactions worth 56 million manat ($32.9 million) were carried out through ATMs within the country, and 2.25 million transactions for 93 million manat ($54.7 million) - through POS terminals, added the Central Bank.

The number of payment cards in Azerbaijan in 10M2021 increased by 1.54 million, or 16.9 percent compared to the same period last year and reached 10.6 million against 9.1 million a year earlier
