Services sector tops economic growth in Iran thanks to bank loans

BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 4. Iranian banks issued loans worth about 8.74 quadrillion rials (about $208 billion) in the services sector of the country in the first half of the current Iranian year (March 21 through September 22, 2023), Trend reports.

Data from Iran's Central Bank shows that the following loans were allocated in the services sector:

- Working capital: 6.74 quadrillion rials (about $160 billion);

- Establishment of enterprises and facilities: approximately 1.44 quadrillion rials (about $34.2 billion);

- Development work: 397 trillion rials (about $9.46 billion);

- Self-employment: 89.8 trillion rials (about $2.14 billion);

- Purchase of personal assets: 41.9 trillion rials (about $999 million);

- Purchase of housing: 23.2 trillion rials (about $553 million);

- Repair work: 8.08 trillion rials (about $192 million).

In total, the Iranian banks issued loans worth about 20.4 quadrillion rials (about $485 billion) in various economic sectors within the first 6 months of the current Iranian year.
