Azerbaijan, Baku, 3 June / Trend / In June, the next Azerbaijani computer games championship will be organized by the Azerbaijan Youth & Sports Ministry and the National Association of Computer Games, and Samsung Electronics will be the general sponsor of the event.
According to the Association, this year the number of disciplines on which games will be held is expected to be seven - Counter-Strike, FIFA 08, Need For Speed: ProStreet, WarCraft: The Frozen Throne, Unreal Tournament 3, StarCraft: Brood War and DOTA All Stars. Counter-Strike and DOTA will be played in teams.
Within the framework of the championship selection, World Cyber Games (WCG) will be held. At present, WCG is the most prestigious international tournament on computer games. The championship was established in 2000 and has been annually held since that time in over 80 countries. Millions of sportsmen participate in selection games during WCG national championships, grand final take place in different cities all over the world ( Seattle, Singapore, Monza, etc). This year, WCG Grand Final will be held in Koln in November and Azerbaijan will participate in four teams - Counter-Strike, FIFA, Need for Speed and WarCraft. The participants will be those who will win the national selection games - Azerbaijan Preliminary 2008. The number of participants is expected to exceed 200 people.
