Azerbaijani Communications Minister to Participate in Conference of World Postal Congress

Azerbaijan, Baku, 8 August / corr. Trend S.Babayeva / Ali Abbasov, the Azerbaijani Communication & Information Technology Minister, will participate in a final session of XXIV World Postal Congress of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) to be held in Geneva, the Ministry said on 6 August.

The congress's final session will take place on 11 and 12 August with the participation of 1,500 delegates from more than 190 countries worldwide.

The World Postal Congress is the supreme body of the UPU, to be called each five years. All member-countries of the Union are represented with different principles.

"Within the framework of this visit, Abbasov will meet with Edward Dayan, the general director of the UPU, and discuss further cooperation," the Ministry said.

At the congress, the Minister will also discuss with Hamadoun Toure, the head of the International Telecommunication Union, the issue on allotment of orbital position for the Azerbaijani communication satellite. 

Azerbaijan was elected a member of the Administrative Council and the Council of Postal Operations for the next terms, including from 2009 to 2012, at the congress's decision in 2008.

Azerbaijan joined the UPU in April 1993 and is a member of the Administrative Council of the organization, elected at a previous congress in Bucharest.
